The Spanish writer Carlos Ruiz Zafón wrote the young adult novel Marina.  

Oscar explains the past at the beginning of the novel. The main events took place in Barcelona at the end of September 1979. The novel is divided into two parallel stories. The first is the story of Marina and Oscar. The story is heartwarming and emotional. Oscar's sentimental life is completely changed after he meets a mysterious girl named Marina. A couple of days later, she takes him to the cemetery of Sarriá where she tells him about the peculiar "lady in black" that comes here every last Sunday at ten o'clock in the morning. On that day, too. In the end, they decide to search for out more about the woman. Shadowing her involves them in an entangled and dangerous adventure.

A mysterious Mijail Kolvenik's life and company are then the focus of the novel. He is a genius when it comes to creating orthopaedic articles and medical prostheses. His obsession is to overcome human deformations and death. Kolvenik's body progressively deforms and deteriorates as a result of genetic degeneration, so Kolvenik reconstructs it before he decays completely. The rotten flesh with which he rebuilt himself had turned him into a hellish creature. [4] But he develops a serum that allows him to continue living using the essence of Teufel, the butterfly living in sewage systems. Mijail Kolvenik returns 30 years after his death to find out what keeps him alive. In a similar way, he has risen up from the sewers like the black butterfly that "feeds on its babies, and when it buries itself, it takes one of its larvae with it, which it eats when it buries itself again".
