Uncle Tom and Eva are both presented as "Christ" characters in Uncle Tom's Cabin. Eva and Uncle Tom have many Christ-like characteristics, but they show them in various ways because of their different lives and upbringing. Because Eva will die soon, she is given a more Christ-like figure than Uncle Tom in these later chapters. Readers quickly recognize Eva's death is unavoidable, and in this last section, the foreboding of death is clearly linked to Eva's role as a "Christ figure." Miss Ophelia even adds at the end of Chapter 25: "After all, though, she's no more than Christ-like…" (p.240). Another difference is that Tom gets some of his Christ-like qualities due to him staying a kind Christian man despite his hardships and awful circumstances. The primary connection between the two characters is highlighted through their actions of morality and "self-sacrificing saints." They were both extremely kind, non-judgemental, and forgiving people.

Explanation:

I focused on my topic and viewed my key points to the best of my ability. In a discussion, you are not allowed to interrupt the person who is talking or whenever someone else talks we must be able to listen and respect the other group. In my opinion I think that I did gave my point justice in explaining in great detail. Considering my topic of discussion I did not include personal experience only facts that I researched. I was able to listen and respect my peers including my teammates. When other teams disagree, I will simply show my evidence to deny their views. The other team would use facts as well as their personal experience to get their point through. There were times when the other teams evidence did not line up so my team was quick in disproving it. Of course there were moments when I disagreed with the other teams as it was a debate, but I respectfully allowed them to continue until it was my turn to speak. There were times when my language was grammatically correct and appropriate to the topic. For example I said “With that being said” or “It occurs to me”. When it was my turn to talk I would sit up straight and make sure that my posture represented confidence. For example with my hands I would also move them around to make people feel easy and use it to my advantage. I used eye contact when I felt as if my confidence in the discussion needed to be represented. I used a straight forward voice to my advantage as well as it dominates the attention to my point of discussion. When the group came to a conclusion we did a report and were able to have a mutual agreement that we stayed on task and were able to complete the debate efficiently

. The group discussion was efficient as we all listened and respected our peers and showed passion during our debate as to why we thought out opinion was correct.

The theme in the short story “A Friend in Need” is that friends are there for each other because the story shows that friends are there to support us and help us with our problems. In this text, the details that develop the theme are seen when Jerome finds out that Martin’s mom just passed away and has trouble deciding what to do to comfort Martin. Jerome is seen trying to figure out what to do for Martin and then “Finally, he said, “I don’t know what to do. I guess I should tell him to let me know if he needs anything, but that doesn’t feel like enough.” Jerome decides to prepare a meal and take over to Martin’s house for dinner. This starts revealing the theme because it shows that Jerome is taking time to support his friend and does something more rather than just sending his regards during this sensitive time. During dinner, Jerome and Martin talk about many things and end up becoming closer as friends, this ends up revealing the theme of the story and also benefits Jerome’s and Martin’s friendship.
